The “structure, process, outcome” study

A widely-used method of evaluation in health and social care.

It covers

  • Efficiency (is the project or service delivered in an integrated and seamless manner at appropriate cost?)
  • Effectiveness (are desired outcomes achieved?)
  • Equity (is the project or service available at the same level of provision to all those who need them?)
  • Acceptability (how is the project or service perceived by users, carers and professionals?)
  • Accessibility (is the project or service used by a wide range of those in need? Can it be?)
  • Appropriateness (is the project or service delivered to those in need at the time they need them?)
