Audit

An audit is an independent evaluation of a person, organization, system, process or project etc. It should include both quantitative and qualitative analysis and aims to express an evidence-based opinion on the entity being audited.

Clinical Audit – also known as standards-based audit – seeks to identify areas for service improvement, develop & carry out action plans to rectify or improve service provision and to ensure that these changes have a positive effect.

It involves the systematic analysis of the quality of care, including
• the procedures used for diagnosis, treatment and care
• the use of resources
• the resulting outcome and quality of life for the patient
