Integration this time?
Liberating the NHS and the role of local government

This paper
- asks whether there is any good reason to think that integration will be successful this time
- summarises findings from a historical overview of arrangements and experiences of joint working between local government and the NHS since the foundation of the latter in 1948
- suggests ten ‘principles of integration’ which are then used as a framework for analysing the relevant provisions of the government’s current proposals.
