Framework urges a fresh look at the end of life care needs of people with neurology conditions
A new framework highlights how end of life care for people with degenerative neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis can be improved.
End of life care in long term neurological conditions: a framework for implementation says there is often little discussion about end of life provision for this group. This may be compounded by a failure to recognise that many people with such conditions face cognitive deterioration.
That makes advance care planning particularly important as it allows early discussions about a range of important issues, such as whether the person would want potentially life prolonging treatment and where they would prefer to be cared for and die.
