    Inquiry into improving dementia diagnosis

    The All Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia has launched an inquiry into how to improve dementia diagnosis rates across the UK. The inquiry aims to uncover why diagnosis might not be happening, why diagnosis rates differ around the country, the financial benefits of an early diagnosis and what is needed to support people following a diagnosis.

    Consultation on cancer of unknown primary and community skin cancer measures

    Draft versions of the cancer of unknown primary measures and the community skin cancer measures, for inclusion in the ‘Manual for cancer services’, have been issued for consultation. The consultation deadline is 14 March 2012.

    Hospice volunteer wins Health and Social Care Volunteering Award

    Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice volunteer Joan Hallock has been named as Health and Social Care Volunteering Award winner at a special celebration event, hosted by Age UK. The awards were judged on the impact the volunteer has made in relation to the person or group of people they have helped, after organisations and community groups across the country nominated outstanding volunteers.

    The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has published consultation comments relating to the End of Life Care for Adults Quality Standard which was published last November.

    Extra money to help people leaving hospital

    £150m additional support funding for social care

    A one-off additional £150m will be allocated to Primary Care Trusts in England, for immediate transfer to local authorities for investment in social care services which also benefit the health system.

    This additional investment will enable local services to discharge patients from hospital more quickly and provide effective ongoing support for people in their own homes.
