Promoting Choice In End Of Life Care For Young Adults
Education Centre, Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, Preston Road, Chorley, Lancashire, PR7 1PP, United Kingdom
Overview
St Catherine’s Hospice and Derian House Children’s Hospice are joining forces for the first time to host a conference that will look at the challenges involved in advanced care planning for young adults.
It’s currently an area of much debate as an increasing number of young people with life limiting illnesses are surviving into adulthood which means there’s a growing need for specialised care for the 16 to 25 year old age group. This conference will pull together experts from both children’s and adult services to share knowledge, look at best practice and learn about innovative ways to improve care for young adults with a progressive life threatening illness.
Eleanor Sherwen, National Programme Manager – The NHS National End of Life Care Programme, will kick off the day with a look at the national perspective. She says,
“A conference like this is vital to highlight the importance of advance care planning and to have the opportunity to share best practice and air challenges- advance care planning is important for all age groups to ensure that true person centred care is delivered and that choice is supported and promoted throughout the care pathway.”
