Health Services Research Network Symposium: Delivering better health services

Manchester Central, United Kingdom

Overview

The Health Services Research Network Symposium, now in its fifth year, is the field’s premier knowledge event.

It brings together presentations and discussion at the leading edge of UK and international health services research.

This year, for the first time, the Symposium will be followed by the NHS Confederation Annual Conference and Exhibition, in an unparalleled interface between researchers, practitioners, senior managers and policy makers.

Event description

Objectives

  • To bring communities and stakeholders together to share knowledge and through that exchange to adopt better ways of collaborative working.
  • To align researchers and service leaders to deliver against mandated strategic objectives of safe, high quality, cost effective, accountable services to patients and populations.
  • To triangulate research, policy and practice in support of innovative, sustainable and patient-centred solutions to the present and future challenges of delivering health and social care.

Evidence for innovation

The December 2011 report, ‘Innovation Health and Wealth: accelerating adoption and diffusion in the NHS’ places innovation at the top of the service agenda, and features an ambitious set of recommendations. The challenge for the health services research community is to produce evidence to inform, to direct and to challenge the adoption and diffusion of innovation in the NHS.

Day one of the 2012 Symposium brings together research presentations and discussions of key work in HSR. It offers the opportunity to explore how the research landscape has and will support HSR and to influence key stakeholders including funders, industry partners, research infrastructure.
Translating knowledge into practice

Day two is focussed on the application and spread of innovation. Sectoral streams, including mental health, new technology for integrated working and patient safety, will engage producers and users of HSR evidence in what can be done to deliver effective, efficient and patient-centred health service innovation.
