Overview

Cardiovascular disease is mentioned as an underlying or contributory cause on 45% of death certificates in England, more than any other group of conditions. Despite this, the end of life care needs of people with heart failure often go unrecognised and unmet. There is still considerable professional reserve about discussing end of life care for people with heart failure.

Event description

This conference will present evidence about the current position and showcase good practice models to improve end of life care for people with heart failure. Highlights will include: – The work of NCPC’s expert Heart Failure Group, including findings from recent surveys on engagement between heart failure nurses and specialist palliative care, and on ICD deactivation in specialist palliative care – A presentation on British Heart Foundation and Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Caring Together programme – Hearing from people with personal experience of heart failure and end of life care

This conference will:

– Empower delegates to develop and improve the palliative and end of life care services they provide for people with heart failure. – Allow delegates to discuss topical issues and difficult clinical scenarios with national experts in palliative and end of life care and heart failure. – Provide networking opportunities to share best practice.
