Communication Skills Work Book
The Finding the Words pack is aimed at health and social care professionals whose work brings them into contact with people and families at the end of life.
It comprises this Work Book, and a short film featuring members of the user group that advised the NEoLCP’s communication skills pilot project discussing their personal experiences of end of life conversations with staff.

This benchmarking tool aims:
- to provide a nationally recognised quality framework in line with EoLC quality markers and the Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention agenda (QIPP)
- to identify an agreed standard for all levels of EoLC communication skills training (introductory, intermediate or advanced)
- to reduce the variation of training course standards nationally
- to guide
- educationalists when developing courses
- commissioners, workforce employers and development leads when purchasing courses to meet workforce needs
- health and social care staff when selecting courses
- To benchmark training that aims to change staff behaviour.
Improvement wheel
This wheel shows key factors (identified by the Communication Skills Pilot Project) that support spread and sustainability of communication skills training. It is based on the New Improvement Wheel, developed by the Modernisation Agency in 2005, which illustrates that spread and sustainability are inextricably linked and that the relative importance of each factor varies depending on local context.
