This section features links to the evidence base for communication skills training.

It is essential that communication skills training is effective. At present the evidence base for effectiveness and impact of this training is limited and relates mainly to advanced level communication skills in cancer.

There is a need for

  • more evidence of the effectiveness and impact of communication skills training for health and social care staff, including non-specialist staff
  • comparisons of different methods of training.
