Care Home Link Person - two day education and training course in end of life care and after death care

Key points

  • A hospice in the Isle of Wight is training ‘link persons’ to support care home staff introducing the LCP
  • Two staff from each care home involved attend the two-day training event.

Earl Mountbatten Hospice in the Isle of Wight is training care home ‘link persons’ to support colleagues introducing the Liverpool Care Pathway.

The training involves a two-day course run by hospice staff and attended by two members of staff from each care home involved.

The course content focuses on key areas of care of the dying including communication, recognising dying symptom control, comfort measures and after death care together with supporting documentation and national guidelines.

There are also regular meetings with all trained staff to provide ongoing support, networking, training and updates.

As more care homes have signed up to the LCP it is becoming difficult for hospice staff to provide the ongoing support.

It is now planned to set up link persons meetings to provide ongoing support.
