Claire’s background is in nursing. She trained at South Lincolnshire School of Nursing. After qualifying Claire worked predominately in cancer and palliative care. She had a number of roles within the Cancer Services Collaborative ‘Improvement Partnership’ supporting cancer networks in the implementation of service redesign for cancer services.

Claire is also National Lead for the Department of Health’s end of life care QIPP workstream, one of ten national workstreams set up to manage the delivery of the Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention agenda in the NHS.

Area of work: primary care, acute care and commissioning

Anita qualified as a nurse in 1981 and specialised in education, cancer and palliative care. She has many years’ experience of clinical, management and service improvement in the private sector and the NHS. She has a passion for supporting improvements in end of life care and user involvement.

Professor Margaret Holloway

Social Care Lead
Area of work: social care

Margaret is Professor of Social Work at the University of Hull. She has an extensive background in end of life care, death and bereavement and is particularly interested in spirituality and cross-cultural issues.

Tes Smith

Tes Smith

Social Care Lead
Area of work: social care, prisons, occupational therapy and housing

Tes began her career as a social worker in the palliative field and has continued her passion for end of life care in all that she does. She is Operational Service Manager for Essex Adult Social Care, with End of Life Care Lead. Tes also supports the development and training of social workers and is a Ruskin tutor for the Essex Cohort of Ruskin Oxford. Tes is passionate about NLP and coaching methods and how these can help and support individuals to reach their full potential.

Area of work: communications skills pilot project, Electronic Palliative Care Co-ordination Systems (EPaCCS) and National End of Life Care Intelligence Network

Katie has many years’ experience in project management and change management. She has a background in physiotherapy and public health.

Eleanor Sherwen

Eleanor Sherwen

Area of work: facilitators network, user involvement, advanced care planning, care homes and nursing

Eleanor trained as a nurse at the Royal Free Hospital Hampstead, qualifying in 1986. She began specialising in palliative and end of life care services 20 years ago. Eleanor also works as a Senior Service Development Manager within West Essex PCT.

Kate Henry

Communications Lead
Area of work: communications, marketing and stakeholder engagement

Kate’s background is in healthcare communications. With an MSc in Corporate Communications and Reputation Management, Kate previously worked as Communications and PR Manager for research and innovation activities at Central Manchester University Hospitals. She has also worked in primary care and mental health trusts.
